Jaipur: Police Sunday recovered the bloodied body of a 26-year-old constable who had been assigned night patrolling duties in Tonk district, prompting family members to allege he was murdered by the sand mafia. The body of Constable Bhag Chand Saini, who was posted at the Banetha police station, was first spotted by villagers in the morning. Police said there were visible injury marks on the face, neck and chest, while his motorcycle was found lying nearby. Police reached the spot soon after and the body was dispatched to the Saadat Hospital for a post-mortem, where the deceased constable’s family staged a protest demanding justice for nearly two hours. Senior police officers finally persuaded the family to allow the post-mortem after assuring them of compensation.Police said preliminary investigations suggest the constable left for patrol on his motorcycle around midnight Saturday. “We are trying to examine footage from as many CCTVs as possible,” said a police official. “We are also questioning multiple people to establish if anyone saw him on Saturday night. We have a few other suspects who are going to be questioned soon,” he added.
