Prayagraj: The Sangam city witnessed a sudden change in the weather on Wednesday evening due to a duststorm in several areas. The strong winds led to a significant drop in temperatures, bringing relief from heatwaves and recent rise in temperature.However, the storm also caused damage in many areas by uprooting trees, electric poles and bill boards. Houses, particularly thatched huts, make-shit shops were also damaged due to high intensity winds.Most of the localities witnessed blackouts for hours due to power outages. Commuters also faced difficulty due to poor visibility and uprooted trees. Normal life and vehicular traffic in and around Prayagraj remained affected for around an hour due to storm.Initially, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius with 55-59 % humidity. Locals preferred to stay indoors due to heatwave and humidity. The city streets wore a deserted look during afternoon hours.In the evening, the city witnessed a sudden change of weather. The sachet app had already sounded an alert for a severe storm with winds blowing at a speed more than 60 kmph.Resident were forced residents to keep their doors and windows closed due to the duststorm. “There was a complete blackout and we had to stop our SUV midway due to the strong winds and low visibility,“ said Rajul Bhargava, a resident of Civil Lines.A huge tree got uprooted near Kalyani Devi crossing area damaging a portion of the house, and four two-wheelers parked at the roadside. Fortunately, no casualty as reported in the incident.
