Mumbai: Sanjay Yewale, president of the Vikhrolikar Vikas Manch, who visited the Kanjurmarg dumping ground site along with BMC and MPCB officials on Tuesday night to monitor the odour, said “very few” garbage trucks were seen entering the site between 12.30 am and 1 am.He said when they questioned the BMC staff about the trucks, they replied that the vehicles would start entering the dumping ground after a while, but not many were seen till 1.30 am. Yewale also said they got similar readings for odour inside the dumping ground site at locations which had obvious foul smell and others that did not smell. Also, the calibration certificate of the equipment used to check the odour and gas was not available. He alleged the BMC and MPCB have permanently parked two mobile air quality monitoring vans near the contractor’s office and said they should have been moving the monitoring vans across the dumping ground and its surroundings. Meanwhile, Yewale said the BMC did not receive any complaints from any location at the dumping site last night.
