I have a good track record against Rajasthan Royals, says Delhi Capitals batter Ashutosh Sharma
Delhi Capitals’ middle-order batter Ashutosh Sharma celebrates after winning the Indian Premier League match against Rajasthan Royals at the SMS Stadium in Jaipur, on Friday

Jaipur: Ashutosh Sharma has a special liking for the Rajasthan Royals bowlers. The Delhi Capitals batter has so far remained unbeaten while playing against them in the last few years. On Friday at the SMS Stadium in Jaipur too, he continued his fine run with an unbeaten 25 off just 15 balls to help DC notch up a thrilling seven-wicket victory with five balls to spare. But the DC batting all-rounder played down his ‘good track record against RR.’“It is nothing like that, but yes, it is part of the game. I have played around five to six matches against Rajasthan Royals and I have scored runs, and my team has been on the winning side. So yes, I enjoy batting against them,” said Ashutosh during a post-match press conference.Ashutosh, who earlier represented Punjab Kings, said he relishes his role as a finisher. His four boundaries towards the end of the innings propelled his team to a morale-boosting win over RR.“I enjoy being a finisher for my team. The team has trusted me to bat in these situations and I enjoy playing in these moments. I always feel that as long as I am at the crease, I can win the game for my team,” said 27-year-old Ashutosh.Pursuing a tough 226-run target, DC were laid a solid foundation by KL Rahul (75) and Pathum Nissanka (62), who added 110 runs for the opening wicket.“In T20 cricket nowadays, a lot depends on the opening partnership and the Power Play. Our openers played really well and because of that we were in the game throughout and could take it till the end,” Ashutosh said.He praised the Delhi’s overseas pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Kyle Jamieson for removing RR’s in-form openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi inside the first two overs.“We wanted to get their opening partnership out early, as they have been doing well in previous matches. That was our plan and it worked, which was good for us.”He said the win has boosted the team’s confidence in their bid to seal a place in the play-offs.
