JAIPUR: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has stepped up preparations for a major anti-encroachment drive on Sirsi Road as part of a plan to widen the stretch to 160ft following a High Court directive.On Thursday, JDA teams reached the site and began demarcating structures falling within the proposed road boundary.While officials describe the project as a crucial step towards easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity, many residents are worried about losing their homes, shops and livelihood.
During the exercise, some residents protested against the action, creating tension in the area. Police personnel present at the spot intervened and managed to calm the situation. However, resentment among residents continues.According to JDA officials, encroachments on both sides of the road will be removed to facilitate the widening project. Over a 5-km stretch, hundreds of shops, houses and commercial complexes may be removed under the drive. Notices have been issued to affected occupants, asking them to remove illegal structures within the stipulated time.Officials said bulldozer action would follow if encroachments are not cleared voluntarily within the deadline.The authority has maintained that the entire process is being carried out in compliance with the High Court directive and according to legal procedures. It said dialogue with affected parties is continuing in an effort to avoid disputes.
