Jodhpur: The Rajasthan High Court Wednesday extended interim bail granted to Asaram, who is serving a life sentence in a sexual assault case, till May 25 on medical grounds.A division bench of acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Sangeeta Sharma allowed the extension after hearing an application seeking continuation of the relief.During the hearing, counsel for Asaram submitted that the 86-year-old is still undergoing treatment and has not fully recovered. Taking note of his medical condition, the court extended the interim bail period.Asaram was earlier granted interim bail on Oct 29, 2025, for six months. As the relief was set to expire on April 29, his lawyers moved the court a day prior, seeking an extension citing his deteriorating health condition. With the latest order, Asaram will continue to remain out on interim bail for medical treatment until the next date fixed by the court.The High Court had granted him interim bail for the first time in Oct 2025, followed by a similar relief from the Gujarat High Court on Nov 6, 2025.Earlier, on Dec 8, 2025, the Supreme Court had dismissed a plea seeking cancellation of his bail and directed the High Court to decide the pending appeal within three months. More recently, Asaram moved an application on April 15, 2026, seeking urgent hearing for extension of bail on medical grounds which was declined.Arguments on his appeal for suspension of sentence were completed earlier this month, while the prosecution (victim’s side) completed its submissions on April 20, after which the matter was reserved for judgement.
